Clouded by the highs of falling in love or the lows of being alone, these moments in life are so intense it becomes near impossible to appreciate or explore the beauty and romance in even the most tragic of events. Kyle Stockill stepped back from such moments to reflect upon them and add them to this collection. Whether it be love lost or found, moments of passion and regret, a person’s internal conflict, or the desire to self-destruct, each poem is written in such vivid detail it pulls you back into not just the intense emotions felt but every painstakingly beautiful moment. From personal favorites like “Always” and “My Heroine” to fan favorites like “Caves” and “Kiss from a Rose,” each poem captures a unique perspective, the echoes of the mind.
CHARMER: You’re like a devil and a spider Creeping up inside her Possessing all she’s known Making it your home You are a thief and a liar So easy to admire Stealing from her soul It’s all your little show You take pleasure from the hiding Excitement from the lying You’re so tired of trying No hope of going back now ALWAYS: Your song hits the airways, you remember the old days When everything was how it was supposed to be. You’re happy and playing, your love is a great thing He’s everything you wanted him to be. Now the nights are endless The pain is tremendous There is no escape When you can’t take it anymore You’re on your knees crying on the floor You want to chase him, but there is another closed door Remember who you are And if you lose your way, I will bring you back again Take my hand baby, if it gets too rough I’ll be right here beside you.
Kyle Stockill was born on February 1, 1989, in Timmins, Ontario, and he attends Niagara College in Welland, Ontario. Kyle plans to continue his education to the postgraduate level, as he has aspirations to eventually become a clinical psychologist. Beginning at a young age, Kyle developed a deep interest in the human mind and the way we behave in response to intense emotions. As a child, adolescent, and now a young adult, Kyle has been in search of an explanation of human behavior, as well as some sort of personal, emotional release. This search has come to fruition in his writing of short poems and stories. A big fan of darker poetry and music, Kyle’s works are generally a way for him to grapple with the darker aspects of humanity while exploring his own personal demons.
