By Jack V. Hattem Ph. D
Dr. Jack Hattem first became interested in Marilyn Monroe's death at the Suicide Prevention Center in Los Angeles in 1962. After three decades as a Clinical Psychologist he decided to write a factual account of the real circumstances in which she died. This book is a unique view of Marilyn Monroe, despite the millions of words written about her. It is the result of a research study into toxic relationshops exactly like Marilyn's, where one person tries to drive another to kill themselves. It is about Marilyn's psychiatric condition and how her psychiatric mistreatment led to her death. The author, for the first time, offers a psychological view of Marilyn Monroe's life which explains most of her troubled relationships and her addictions. This book is about the author's need to understand why people choose to kill themselves. It ends with a conspiracy hidden over forty five years. This book is about why Marilyn died, how she died, and who was directly responsible for her death! Even the Cuban missile crisis played a role in her death.

Born of a high school dropout’s unyielding drive to illustrate civil accountability, "The Layman’s Petition" is the astonishing social statement destined to change the tone and direction of cultural/political thought well into the twenty-first century. Designed originally as a single act live reading, the first-time author distils the essence and paralysis of his generation’s cohesive diffusion into a single and compelling message of hope, contemporary integrity, respect for the past and a globally framed forward-looking enquiry into the very nature and divisive product of thought itself. ‘Where does the human equation go from here’? ‘At what point does our collective cultural innocence, concerning the nature of human consciousness, become obscene’? These are the troubling questions folded uniquely into this intensely personal account of growing up in Canada immediately following the 1960s. Described as ‘poetry,' as ‘a love song,’ as ‘an expansive painting,’ The Layman’s Petition took over fifteen years for the former high school dropout to write and edit and represents thirty years of sustained and deliberate reflection on the subject.

This book is an interesting commentary on Marriage as an endangered institution and why it is so hard for two people to come together in such a union and make it work. It is a 'must read' for any romantic's out there, lovers, married people, single people and anyone hoping to get married some day. It does so by very carefully examining what could have made the "Fairytale" union of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston turn out to be a Nightmare for the latter. It looks at the role played in the whole saga by that acclaimed femme fatale, Ms. Angelina Jolie. How does a human being (in this case, Jennifer Aniston) deal with a situation where they marry someone they "know" quite well and wake up one day to find a complete stranger? It delves deeply into the issues arising as a result of the shocking break up. It weighs in on Brad's decision to dump his wife for a new beginning with a high risk partner and compares his actions to those of a select group within the industry. Did fate have a hand in the birth of Brangelina, in other words was it ordained from above? The book also examines the sometimes frightening and often ridiculous antics of the paparazzi as it relates to the saga. What are the possibilities of having a lasting union between a confirmed bi-sexual female and a heterosexual male! Will the Media ever allow Jen to get over Brad? It provides an analysis of the various Lessons of the break up of the decade and the new Adoption Mania, how genuine is it all. Are these innocent Orphans becoming mere pawns in a PR Orchestra. It concludes by posing all those sensitive questions to all parties in the Triangle, that everyone wishes they could have the opportunity to ask them but in reality can't. For example, what would Ange do if she ever catches Brad with naked pictures of Zahara when she is an adult, ala Woody Allen? Or, what is likely to happen if Brad and Ange both fall for the same woman? The gist of AHA! is to show that what 21st century humans like doing most is tribal in nature and still based on getting one's DNA into the next generation. We love our car and get great satisfaction from the cell-phone, make McDonald's or Home Depot a roaring success, adore Oprah and tolerate elevator music because not enough generations have gone by to shake off ancient survival behaviour. Eleven chapters take an amusing look at some pretty basic impulses evolved for life in the savannah and how we indulge them today: we love to chew and drink while watching TV; we buy magazines stuffed with illustrated gossip about celebrities; we can't resist adding that pea-green blouse at 70% off regular price to our crammed closet. In the last chapter AHA! concludes that the print culture (though not print) is waning because focussing in solitude on black marks in a line is not the heritage of our still in-control past.
