This book, the second in a series, is designed to help anglers catch more and bigger fish in Lake Okeechobee, Florida. The authors are both tournament fisherman. One is a professional bass guide on Lake Okeechobee and the other an outdoor writer. They share tips, techniques and some closely guarded secrets about catching trophy largemouth bass on "the Big O." The book also provides a wealth of information about the lake, its fish and the surrounding resources available to anglers. Of particular value is an up-to-date map with GPS coordinates that identifies year round hot spots for trophy bass. Each "hot spot" is clearly described in the book, including information on seasonal changes, best baits, techniques, and vegetation near the area. This Book is written with the intention of giving the Car Owner a comprehensive understanding of the National Car Test, describing all aspects of what happens during the Test, how and why items and components are tested, why they pass and why they fail and in so far as is possible, describe the some of technicalities and mysteries of the automobile in layman's terms. It will describe the procedure from start to finish, how to book your Test, how to prepare for the Test, what to expect at the Test Centre, what you will see as your car is being tested, and what to do at the end of the Test. The book is not an "official" publication by N.C.T.S. or the Government, but is written on observations, research and information gleaned since the N.C.T. was introduced in Ireland in 2000; as well as the author's experience in the Motor Trade, and aims to be totally unbiased. However, some passages in this book may be perceived to be critical of the Motor Trade in general. This is not the case. There are many, many fine Garages and Motor Mechanics in business, but as they will be first to acknowledge, there are also some who are not so fine, as is the case in any trade, and if standards of car repair and workmanship are improved by such criticism, then so be it. Remember, the National Car Test is based on safety, and one thing is has achieved is to raise the awareness of people in the Motor Trade to this end, which can only be good for the Car Owner. Speaking of which, it would be true to say that since its introduction, the Car Test has met with a certain degree of hostility. Only to be expected, as it is a compulsory test which the Car Owner has to pay for. But, believe it or not, N.C.T.S. are on your side. (Although taking sides is not a good way to describe it!) This will be explained more fully in the next couple of pages. (Introduction) Bear in mind too, that N.C.T.S. Vehicle Inspectors are only human, and if you are unhappy in any way with the Test, there is a simple but comprehensive appeal procedure in place to deal with this. (Explained later) It is hoped that the National Car Test is embraced by all for what it is i.e. to make the road a safer place for everyone. And, as it say's in all good books of this nature, while every care is taken to ensure accuracy, no responsibility can be taken by the authors for errors or omissions. Finally, Vehicle Inspectors throughout this book are referred to as "he", even though there are some female V.I.'s. Apologies to these fine ladies, but the author is too lazy to keep writing "he or she" all the time, and hopes he will not incur their wrath!

This text targets all stakeholders of fire safety regardless of position. Building Owners, Designers, Contractors, Building Officials and Inspectors will find this text, crucial to the fulfillment of their professional obligations. The book dedicates Chapters to the history, the how’s, what’s and why’s of spray applied fire resistant materials providing a foundation to resolve fireproofing issues. Chapters are also dedicated to understanding controversial issues that affect our industry such as beam size, thermal restraint, beam substitution, and thickness calculations. The majority of the text is dedicated to the many details of specifying, applying, and inspecting spray applied fireproofing. When does a beam act like a column? What UL test applies to a truss versus a joist? These and many more questions are addressed over nearly 200 pages. The last three chapters focus on putting this knowledge to practical use in the field. Chapter 23 emphasizes the economic analysis or saving money. The available resources for fire safety must be efficiently distributed to get the best bang for the dollar spent. Chapter 27 targets the construction schedule. Any application must be as expedient as possible without incurring added OT costs or sacrificing compliance, always a challenge Over the years application efficiency has dropped, installed costs have risen, and yet compliance remains troublesome. People just do not have the time or the knowledge to put it all together, which is the focus of the final Chapter 28. The text is concluded with a 200-word glossary.

While it may be a new concept for many readers, telephone interpreting has been successfully used to enable speakers of different languages to communicate for more than three decades. With time, the field has evolved to ensure that high levels of quality can be obtained, both in terms of connectivity and quality of interpretation. However, in spite of its 30-year history and widespread use throughout the world, very little has been written about telephone interpreting. In this, the first book devoted entirely to the subject, the author provides readers with long-awaited transparency and insight into the field, in order to promote the highest possible standards of quality. The publication serves as a practical guide for interpreters, a resource for educators, a reference text for researchers and a comprehensive handbook for consumers of interpreting services everywhere. This book provides readers with a fascinating in-depth view into the world of remote interpretation via telephone. The first publication devoted exclusively to the topic, this book offers a wealth of information for interpreters, educators, training professionals and consumers of interpreting services within the realms of health care, legal services, public safety, finance, social services, insurance and numerous other industries where telephone interpreting services are used. Through the model code of ethics and standards of practice included in the book, readers can gain a better understanding of the levels of quality that can be obtained through telephone interpretation. Numerous role-play scenarios are also included to facilitate telephone interpreting practice.

Amphibious vehicles were some of the first self propelled vehicles ever created going all the way back to 1805. The only Factory produced amphibian was the Amphicar in the 60's. Just some of the facts about amphibians that are dispelled in "The Amphigeo Story." Today more than ever the world is ready for such a vehicle, one that you can drive around doing errands as well as tear down a boat ramp into the froth. The Amphigeo is for the masses, two thirds of the planet is covered in water, and 70% of the world's population lives on the water or very near. Why then should it be we have to own a boat and a car to take advantage of both mediums of transportation? Not anymore, Mark Roehrig has developed the simplest conversion ever conceived for putting a car into the water. His "Amphigeo" took just 5 months to build; his second would only take about 3 months, for now he knows all the secrets and shortcuts, which is exactly what prompted him to write "The Amphigeo Story." Now anyone can own an amphibious car, at the lowest price ever imagined, in fact the Amphigeo is just that, the world's best bargain in an amphibian. The Amphigeo makes use of many of the original parts, including engine, transmission, CV axles, steering, suspension, seats, dash, radiator, fans, fuel tank and more. This car has changed his life, everywhere he goes crowds gather, the press and TV has loved doing the story. But Mark will tell you none of that surpasses driving in the water, it is his ultimate reward, and after 2 years the Amphigeo's design has proved reliable. If you're ready for the experience of a lifetime, this books for you, you could build an Amphigeo or have one built, but owning one will definitely put an end to the everyday doldrums. Any car can drive into the water, only a good one can drive out again.

By Terry D. Anderson PhD
Co-Authors: Kenneth Gisborne CPP and Patrick Holliday MA Every Officer is a Leader: Coaching Leadership, Learning and Performance in Justice, Public Safety and Security Organizations, authored by experts in leadership, law enforcement and security, responds to the need for a reappraisal of leadership styles in the public safety sector since September 11, 2001. Building on two previous successful publications, the authors examine the profound impact of leadership on the organizational behavior at the individual, team and organizational level in justice, security and public safety agencies in this new era. Using a multi-source and multi-disciplinary approach presented through a combination of theory and practical examples, leaders in police, corrections, customs, courts, security and other regulatory agencies are shown how to effectively implement processes to create what the authors are calling a "leadership and learning organization." The Transforming Leadership process used in Every Officer is a Leader is founded in the concepts of competency-based leadership and action learning. The authors focus on the need to prepare leaders who, after building the "leadership organization," move into building the "learning organization" that is responsive to both the external and internal stakeholders served by those in the organization. The authors provide research-based competency assessments and a free online tool kit for building continuous improvement teams. These easy to apply and proven systems will equip leaders to build both their own and others' leadership capacity while they simultaneously improve organizational performance. The 21st Century leader must establish the links necessary for proper coordination of effort among all public safety agencies. In addition, leaders must nurture the personal relationships with other agencies, both public and private, necessary to allow seamless cooperation before crises occur, and during times of crisis. This new edition of Every Officer is a Leader is called for by the events of history.
