A typical first grade class loves learning and their teacher, Mrs. Hildebrand. Then they discover she is very ill with cancer. They find ways to support her through surgery and lengthy treatment. She finds comfort and strength in their openness and genuine caring. She gains much from the experience. During the school year the children learn not only math and reading but what helping, humor and hugs can contribute to the healing process. This book can be a jumping off point for discussion when a student or students in a class or school encounter a similar situation.

This story was created while the author awaited a chemo treatment. It grew and developed into a book during her first five years of surviving cancer. As her students reached out and helped her get through a difficult time, she wanted to share the same possibility with other teachers, parents and children. This is a subject that touches nearly every one of us. It is important to help the children understand cancer as well.

In my clinical observations, many times the physicians and nurses were extremely busy and parents were not capable of explaining a medical procedure to their child. In speaking with many critically ill and medically fragile children they wanted to know why they were in the hospital, how can they be cured and will this hurt? In my line of books, I am addressing important issues such as cancer, diabetes, hospice and genetic disabilities. Lastly, these books would give great insight to siblings and other family members in understanding a specitic medical condition and the process involved.

Our son, Nathan, has been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. We wrote this book to help raise money for his fund at the Bank of America, and to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. We love our son; finding out he has Cystic Fibrosis was devastating. He is our miracle baby. I wrote this poem/story as a sweet way of letting children understand Cystic Fibrosis. We all have differences, but we are still the same in that God made us all unique and special. It is my goal that the book will circulate in Christian schools, hospitals, private clinics, C.F. Clinics, and with respiratory therapists.

Our son's C.F. was diagnosed through a severe rash. His regular pediatricians didn't relate it to Cystic Fibrosis. Doctors are often just not aware of the symptoms, and it is often misdiagnosed.

A portion of every book we sell will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

This book is a fun story. It has been read by two primary school head teachers who consider it to be of educational value. Obesity has become a curse in the western world. We must try to halt it and improve lives, especially those of young people.

This story is written to prevent young people falling into the trap of inactivity by watching too much television and playing too many computer games. We are living in times where many families rely on fast food. Not only that, they do not make any effort to help and promote their children in sport and other activities. This could be either because of lack of time or because they themselves are inactive.

This story shows that by eating the right food and being active that you can have both, fun and good health.

The young reader will see the consequences of either listening to the experts i.e. the doctor, teacher or parent, or of doing nothing. He or she has the choice of how this story ends. We must tell young people that eating too much of the wrong food and not doing enough exercise can have terrible consequences.
