My Blanket is a short story that shows how much one little girl, Emily Anne, loves her blanket. This blanket has beome her sanctuary, her refuge and her friend. I have chosen stick people to be the graphic representation of Emily's family, as stick people seem to be the universal symbol for a child's drawing of people. This book shows how Emily uses her blanket for many things. For example; a shield to hide her during the storm, a roof for her imaginary house and a cushion for her to use while sitting in a shopping cart- just to name a few. This book is based on true events from one little girl who has a security blanket.

Marni Altaker-Mount's My First Day of School is a great starter book for any child experiencing school for the first time. Marni Altaker-Mount wrote this book while pursuing her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. After successfully completing her undergraduate studies, completing a Masters of Education, and teaching for eight years she realized there was a need to publish her book for both classroom and home use to help children cope with their first school experience. Through the use of vivid color illustrations by AmyBeth Quering, this book is not only verbally stimulating but also visually entertaining. My First Day of Schoolhas easy text for read-alouds with early reader attention to numbers and letters. This book is a great tool for early education. The theme, of course, is the first day of school. A usual view would be from a child's perspective; this book is from a teacher's perspective. The reader does not find this out until the end of the book, but it clearly shows the teacher and the children share the same routines and apprehensions about the first day of school. This is quite a lovely and educational book, which will reach children, parents, and teachers. This book will also be a useful motivational tool for children with a fear of their first day in a classroom setting.

This delightful, simplistic book is an introduction to racial tolerance designed for young children. With adorable drawings obviously created by a child, it introduces the skin color differences among various races. However, the child narrator finds similarities among all people and chooses to think of all people as potential "rainbowy friends" who are more alike than not inside, where it matters. With diversity and tolerance of all people being such important concepts today, this book is a "must-have" for all libraries, classrooms, daycares, and children's homes! Note from the author to the adults in a child's life: This book arose from the pictures of "rainbow people" my daughter began drawing at age three and a conversation regarding skin colors we had when she was four. It was truly inspiring to learn that she had not yet classified people by skin color and that she had to think very hard to determine the skin colors of people we knew. Instead, she readily described people as "the boy who likes dinosaurs," "the one that gets in trouble a lot," and "the girl that sings well." It is in no way my intention to belittle the importance of our ethnic backgrounds and cultures in our lives. It is simply to instill in the very young the fact that although we have various skin colors and cultures, they are not our sole definition. Rather, we are all people first, we share more in common than not, and we ought to be noticed for our actions and choices more than by the physical characteristics with which we are born. I hope this simple book opens an enlightening dialogue between your child and his/her greatest influence - you. Blessings, Kristina B. Storrs

Pele'yah--that's Pe to rhyme with heh, Le with just a hint of lay, and Yah as in Hallelu-yah, with the stress on the last symbol--is a donkey's view of the person of Jesus as told through a young woman's eyes about the sacrificial systems of Israel in the first century. The story is suitable for children as young as 5, though 8 and above is an easier read. The book teaches a little of the Hebrew language and letters, and plausible aspects of first century history with respect to the construction of the temple and the sacrificial system. It also deals with violence and recovery, and with death. One parent remarked, "People will learn something of religion from this story." A study guide with references to the Biblical allusions, a historical timeline and source material is provided at http://www.peleyah.ca

My inspiration for this book was my son John. He would go out and ride his bike up and down the street and I could clearly see that, in his mind, it was not a bike at all. He would put on his cowboy hat and boots and ride his "horse" or even stop at the filling station to fill up the "truck". In today's world children have so much technology that they don't need to use their imagination. This book was written to help children to see the endless possibilities that are available to them within their own imagination!

The reading material presented in this book will be so inspirational, it will keep the both of you laughing, giggling, and interacting page after page. The vivid illustration is another great tool to engage your young scholar. Show him or her how things might look dissimilar when our perspective changes. There are also cultural and scientific elements in the book, such as a hut in Asia or an octopus camouflaging in pebbles, which allow readers to see the world a little differently. I will recommend this book to anyone who works with young children. The journey to learning the English alphabet has just been made easier!
