Come join us on a journey of three little girls who end up getting a life lesson on beauty from a concerned mother. Due to the fact that one of the girls was being as cruel as any child would be, when they have a limited understanding on beauty and not much experience in life. There are certain things that with understanding would be looked at in a more positive light.ÊA lot of these things unfortunately are found out the hard way. Although this is a story based on African American children it is relative to children of every nationality, background, and culture.

These rhymes were born on frequent journeys along the highways of Australia, touring with various theatrical productions. Their author, Patricia Vivian-Lall, amused herself by oberserving strange and different place-names, and composing rhymes about them for her children. There are no Australian nursery, or nonsense rhymes to capture a child's innate love of playing with words, sounds and rhymes, so, she thought if fun with rhymes could also be related to the environment, with visual humor, meanings of names and a map, they would be more relevant and could lay an educational foundation that could be acquired painlessly and make learning fun. Many of these fascinating names reflect the language and culture of the first Australians, the Koori people, and the rich and descriptive meanings of the names are included, thus expanding the child's horizons, also a knowledge and understanding of "differences" can be gained and appreciated. This "building of bridges" could be valuable in later life. The delightfully humorous, elegant illustrations, painted on silk by Brenda Nelson, depict the environment of each rhyme, and character of animal, bird and human personalities. In each one, they leap off the page and out to the reader with a lively and instantaneous impact, loveable and endearing. The map is included as an early orientation exercise, giving the child an overview of the shape of Australia and an idea of where each place is in relation to themselves and others. There is fun for children living in other countries, who may be coming to Australia, or receive this book as a souvenir of a recent visit to the Antipodes. Whatever the reason, a need was seen which, hopefully, this book will fulfil.

Out of love from my many friends and my love for children, my children's book entitled "Winky's Wonderful World of Shoes" was born. I now have 780 shoes in my collection and shoes from 36 different countries. There are many reasons why I think children will be interested in reading my book. It has all kinds of shoes that Winky and his family wear, and there are a lot of shoes from other countries mentioned and pictured. Many children have not seen or have any knowledge of them. My twin granddaughters were born in Kunsan, Korea, and there is a double page showing the type of shoes Koreans wear and the Korean name for them. Also, many Korean customs are in the reading of my book. And did you know that Winky was given a pair of red, magic shoes by the Fairy Godmother so he could travel to different countries? In his magic shoes, he visits Morocco where they leave their shoes on the outside of the Mosque when they go in to pray. In my book, you will learn that Winky's dog, Caesar, wears shoes, too, and can fly? It has been a long-time dream of mine that each and every boy and girl everywhere would be able to read my interesting and educational book about shoes from the United States and around the World. I visualize their eyes will sparkle when they read about the Royal Guards of Greece or the Dutch boy and girl dancing in wooden shoes among the tulips. Then I can say that for almost a lifetime of collecting shoes and dreaming of a children's book for every boy and girl to read, could become a reality. What a wonderful feeling it would be to leave a great legacy for all children of theWorld.

Not a week goes by without a negative news story reporting the rates of problem behaviors among Canada’s aboriginal youth. These statistics don’t tell the whole story, and the paradigm must shift from focusing on deficits to a more strengths-based approach. Engaging and Empowering Aboriginal Youth presents a wide range of guidelines, strategies, templates, and case studies for those who work with aboriginal youth. Divided into five sections, this toolkit • provides a historical context for understanding the challenges facing aboriginal youth and makes a case for the importance of building youth engagement and empowerment; • offers a series of assessment tools to help identify the starting point for change; • identifies four key tenets of effective programming with aboriginal youth: understanding and integrating cultural identity, increasing youth engagement, fostering youth empowerment, and establishing and maintaining effective partnerships; • highlights challenges and opportunities in working with partners in the educational system; • offers a range of considerations for program evaluation and other types of research. A guide for frontline service providers, facilitators, educators, community partners, and researchers to adapt or develop programs, Engaging and Empowering Aboriginal Youth combines conceptual guidelines and practical strategies.

This book is based on the life and times of a Canadian soldier in World War Two. Other men and women tell their story, too. Stanley George Anderson and his family lived in the small town of St. Laurent, Manitoba. Stan grew up with an older and younger brother and a younger sister. He took his schooling at the only learning place in town, a Roman Catholic Convent. He and his older brother soon tired of schooling and headed out to work at the age of 17. The dirty thirties were crippling the world and money was in short supply. Young Canadian men went out to seek their fame and fortune. Via the railroad. With no cash. The alternate travel was what they called “riding the rails”. This meant catching the train outside the urban limits, to avoid the police catching them. As the train passed, the young men grabbed the car ladder and swung up to ride on top of the railcar. Dangerous and sometimes cold.

The nine travel essays and fifty colour photos presented in the book are reflecting many of the adventures, observations, and dreams my wife and I have experienced during our canoe trips to, in, and around Killarney and the wilderness park, as well as on our hiking tours in Killarney Provincial Park. For twenty years—mostly in June and September—we have paddled and trekked in this area of the northern Georgian Bay, recorded our impressions in diaries and on photos. These selected essays and pictures are a cross-section of those travels. We canoed along sculptured granite shores, camped on remote islands, hiked up hills and down dales on the 100-km-long La Cloche Silhouette Trail, and, with unrelenting happiness, watched sunsets. Being a musician I often imagined hearing symphonic music while looking across land and water, and recorded these impressions. I also referred to book passages I considered appropriate at certain moments while I was viewing the panorama in front of me.
