According to Maria Montessori, children are in the sensitive periods for concentration, coordination, order, and independence between the ages of three and six. In Montessori classrooms, promoting freedom of expression and language development is extremely important. This collaborative, innovative, and independent cultural project showcased the essence of Montessori’s legacy. So as you read this book, allow yourself the opportunity to view the words and pictures through the eyes of children as they present their thoughts and feelings to you. Respect them for who they are in this given moment as young artists. The children found confidence, joy, peace, and laughter in this experience of learning about themselves, and so did I!

Foster homes and out-of-home placement have been portrayed as two of the best things that have happened for the welfare of children. This is only true, however, if the system is used by those who direct it correctly. Most parents would be upset if they knew that their children were being abused both physically and sexually inside the system. Violence, racism, alcohol, and drugs are common within the foster care and out-of-home placement systems; even so, a wall of protection and silence has been built around the human resource system. This has allowed the unspeakable to occur inside the system—things that would put those on the outside into prison for life. Most of us would generally be shocked to find out there is very little external oversight of these agencies in many instances. It has been a shocking thirty-year experience for author William Andrews, working in counseling and with out-of-home people. Over 60 percent of the children removed from homes in some states are listed as unwarranted removals. This means that the removal of children from a home is usually not justified. See America’s future by looking at its past and present; change is urgently needed.

According to Maria Montessori, children are in the sensitive periods for concentration, coordination, order, and independence between the ages of 3 and 6. In Montessori classrooms, promoting freedom of expression and language development is extremely important. As we brainstormed theme possibilities for the book project, a child said, “It would be a good idea to write about the earth because you teach us that the earth gives us what we need.” So, we voted and began discussing the layout of the book. Witnessing their ideas explode from the thought process to oral expression and then becoming a reality as it transferred to paper was outstanding! This collaborative, innovative, and independent cultural project showcased the essence of Montessori’s legacy. So, as you read this book, allow yourself the opportunity to view the words and pictures through the eyes of children as they present their thoughts and feelings to you. Respect them for who they are in this given moment as young artists. The children found confidence, joy, peace, and laughter in this experience and so did I!

Paper Knot Animals is the result of a desperate, innovative elementary art teacher who wanted to help a first grade class learn to tie a simple knot. Using a tan strip of paper left on the floor by a previous art class, a simple paper knot was formed and trimmed to become the basic unit for a menagerie of unique paper knot animals - real and imaginative. Whether just for fun, instruction or for decorative purposes, the first time craftsman will be instructed to creatively construct a host of charming paper knot figures. With simple tools and readily available materials, getting started is quick and easy. Using the simple concept of a paper knot, the imagination is challenged to create all of your favorite animals. Create your own greeting cards, decorate your room, or make paper jewelry. Making paper knot animals is a creative way to use your leisure time. Paper Knot Animals will appeal to students young and old, parents, teachers and home schoolers, as well as talented artists - and will assist in making a fascinating collection of paper knot animals. "To Be or Knot to Be?"...That is the question.

Out of love from my many friends and my love for children, my children's book entitled "Winky's Wonderful World of Shoes" was born. I now have 780 shoes in my collection and shoes from 36 different countries.
There are many reasons why I think children will be interested in reading my book. It has all kinds of shoes that Winky and his family wear, and there are a lot of shoes from other countries mentioned and pictured. Many children have not seen or have any knowledge of them. My twin granddaughters were born in Kunsan, Korea, and there is a double page showing the type of shoes Koreans wear and the Korean name for them. Also, many Korean customs are in the reading of my book.
And did you know that Winky was given a pair of red, magic shoes by the Fairy Godmother so he could travel to different countries?
In his magic shoes, he visits Morocco where they leave their shoes on the outside of the Mosque when they go in to pray.
In my book, you will learn that Winky's dog, Caesar, wears shoes, too, and can fly?
It has been a long-time dream of mine that each and every boy and girl everywhere would be able to read my interesting and educational book about shoes from the United States and around the World. I visualize their eyes will sparkle when they read about the Royal Guards of Greece or the Dutch boy and girl dancing in wooden shoes among the tulips.
Then I can say that for almost a lifetime of collecting shoes and dreaming of a children's book for every boy and girl to read, could become a reality. What a wonderful feeling it would be to leave a great legacy for all children of theWorld.
