The information contained in this book, although familiar to many practitioners and students, is presented in a concise logistical format. This unique method of utilizing acupuncture treatment algorithms for differential diagnosis of disease states is logically systematic and useful both as an acupuncture treatment text and reference guide. The compilation of material is extracted from Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Foreign Language Press, Beijing. The disease states are listed alphabetically and are located at the top of the page. They are then subcategorized and differentiated according to their main manifestations. The acupuncture treatment points that are specific to the disease state are found next, followed by the tongue and pulse diagnosis. Located at the bottom of the page are acupuncture treatment points that are common to the various subdivisions of the disease states. It is often helpful to start at the bottom of the page, identifying common acupuncture treatment points to each subdivision (if there are any). This unique presentation of the material appears visually clear, uniform and easier to decipher and commit to memory. The appendix contains the disease states and acupuncture treatment points listed in a quick reference chart. This document will prove to be a valuable tool to both practitioner and student.

The Clinical Application of Double-Point Acupuncture and Moxibustion Therapy offers a thorough description of the clinical application of double-point acupuncture and moxibustion. Double-point acupuncture and moxibustion therapy is defined by selecting two points during each acupuncture session to treat and prevent certain diseases. Double-point acupuncture and moxibustion therapy is noted for its fewer selected points, quick responses, and exceptional results. It is practiced with ease by acupuncturists and readily accepted by patients.

This book was been structured for the clinical application of acupuncture and consists of ten chapters, which are as follows: infectious diseases, parasitic infestations, internal medicine, surgical applications, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatric, ophthalmic, E.N.T. disorders, oral diseases, and dermatitis. Within these chapters are about 150 other kinds of common clinical presentations, including high fever, arrhythmia, hypertension, common cold, bronchitis, abdominal pain, neck pain, headache, sciatica, irregular menstruation, infertility, bronchial-asthma in children, infantile diarrhea, eczema, urticaria, stye, glaucoma, deafness, toothache, smoking cessation, and weight loss. All of the diseases are listed by their western medicine disease names and most are explained in both western medical and TCM theories. Every chapter of this book is consistent with each other in its simple and clear style and format. Each section consists of an introduction to the pathology, the two-points selected, detailed needle techniques, treatment efficacy, case studies, and discussion.

There is a special emphasis in this book on the acupuncture methods and needle techniques. When applying these treatments in practice, the practitioner should follow the instructions step by step and repeat the recommended methods and techniques each time. In the end, the practitioner and patient should notice the same results mentioned in the book.

Playing With Fire is a unique book that explores current issues surrounding the epidemic of smoking among women. This is an extremely important topic today because for the first time in our history, young women are more likely than men to become smokers. Cancer of the lung is now one of the major causes of cancer deaths among women, and women now account for more than half the new cases of lung cancer each year. The future looks bleak, for it is predicted by the World Health Organization that deaths from lung cancer among women will double over the next twenty years. This is in addition to the loss optimum health due to smoking.

Playing With Fire helps to explain the reasons for the current pattern of smoking among women. It is the hypothesis of this book that while the lives of women have changed dramatically over the past quarter-century, the advances that women have made economically and socially have not made our world so much a better place, as a more stressful one. New roles and responsibilities are layered on top of the older, more traditional ones and consequently women are suffering the effects of burnout as never before. Cigarette smoking is an effective way of self-medicating to alleviate the pain and stress of our daily lives.

Playing With Fire is unique in that it takes a compassionate view of women who smoke and challenges them to explore deeper issues in their lives, something vitally important in long-term smoking cessation. The book validates women's experiences and provides them with a context for why they feel the way they do, which gives meaning to why they smoke. While supporting women in their personal choices--to smoke or not to smoke--it encourages them to seriously consider the risks involved and to consider ways of improving their situation and self-care practices.

The beauty of Playing With Fire is that it does not preach or scold, but rather takes readers on a journey of self-discovery that will help women to understand their lives and motives for smoking, as well as the possibility of personal change and power. It is a book that explores the creation of a better world through the individual's acceptance of and love for the self and the adoption of healthy self-care practices.
