The standard SUDOKU puzzle is a grid of 81 cells formed by 9 rows and 9 columns, and divided into 9 3x3 blocks. A limited number of cells are already filled in with numbers from 1 to 9. The objective is to fill in all blank cells with numbers from 1 to 9 in such a way that each row, each column and each 3x3 block of the grid contains all numbers from 1 to 9, without omission or repetition of any number.

Solving SUDOKU puzzles is both easy and difficult, easy thanks to the simplicity of its definition and its independence on the knowledge of mathematics and language; difficult because "deadlocks" usually happen and obstruct the continuation of the filling.

The main objectives of the book are to

a) Propose the terminology used in SUDOKU for ease of communication. b) Formulate the rules and set up a uniform method for solving systematically and logically SUDOKU puzzles.

The book explains many Value Rules and Candidate Rules such as the Two Occurrences Rule, Cross Line Rules, Opaque Wall Rule, Open Wall Rule, Cell Family Rules, Rules of the Holes, Certain Line Rules, Certain Cells Rule, Generalised Two Occurrences Rule, Indirect Filling with the False Chain Filling, the Special Triplet in a Block Set, the Unsolvable Rectangle Rules, the Special Chain of 2-value Cells of same numbers, the Rectangle of Cells with same Pointing number, the three parallel Bamboo Sticks of same number, the Meeting Point of 2 chains of cells initiated by a 2-value Cell, the concept of N-Shared-Cells of N numbers, Twins, Triplets and Quads, the "Trial and Error" technique", ...

All rules are followed by examples and exercises with answers. Proposed steps to solve SUDOKU puzzles and explained solution of a sample SUDOKU puzzle are also given.
