This book is a work of fiction that describes man’s inhumanity toward man after WWII and until very recently in 2013. Members of the “master race” did not want Negro blood in the veins of German children who were offspring of the trysts between Negro soldiers and German prostitutes. The soldiers are looking for good sex and a stable home environment while the women were looking for a provider and a weekend lover. All couples are deeply infatuated with each other. The storyline is a sequel to The Freedom Murders with the same cast of General Sarma Goldbond, Carlos Espinosa, and Nicolas Haig. All antagonists are active members of the Associated Speerwerthers Society of Bonn and Berlin, Germany. The general theme is for Nicolas and his team to discover perpetrators that do not want to be found or brought to justice. They start their search knowing nothing, but through due diligence, they work their way through the fog and maze to find success at the end of the day. And the punishment that is applied is of the order that was approved by all the associated authorities, judicial, administrative, and otherwise. At the end of the day, just fairness is applied and the protagonists move on to Berlin where a similar den of inequity is known to exist.

It’s one weird winter on Middle Island for young police officer Pete Jakes and his wife, Ali. It’s raining in February, and it hasn’t snowed since Christmas. The woods are swamps, the snowmobiles silent, and bored hunters are shooting up the local mailboxes. Meanwhile, Police Chief Halstead and his deputies are busy carrying out the Provincial Emergency Preparedness Plan for the Island. Never mind that the local version of a chemical spill would be the overturning of Black’s septic removal truck. Too bad there’s no preparedness for murder. When a woman gets killed by a stray shot, the police find too many suspects and far too many rifles. Is it a shot gone wrong by reckless hunters? Or maybe the woman’s estranged husband, a good old Island boy who lives with his dog in the swamp? A killer is on the loose and rifles are turning up all over. Ali Jakes has her own preoccupation; she’s seven months pregnant, suffering toxemia, and her doctor and husband have put her under strict house arrest till the baby comes. Bored with jigsaws and women’s afternoon television, she discovers her own terrifying connection to the Island crime wave.

Young Dr. Paul Allan Kelly traveled many times to southern Texas on vacations, developing such a passion for the region and its people that he eventually moved to Treasure, Texas, to practice medicine. With his floppy straw hat, crazy bib overalls, and love for his Harley motorcycle, Kelly was a bit unorthodox as a small town’s only doctor. What he lacked in appearance, he made up for in character. He championed the rights of the people in the small, farming community, and he was obsessed with a desire to change the oppressive slum conditions and poverty of the Mexican American people living here. He stressed the need for greater politically representations in their communities and the importance of voting and participating in the political programs. But some people in powerful positions in this county believed Kelly was a troublemaker. After only three years in practice, Kelly was shot and killed under suspicious circumstances by Deputy Sheriff Billy Joe Smith. Though justice was never achieved in the court system, some of those responsible for Kelly’s death paid the price.
