By the time he's fifteen, he suffers a brutal assault by his mother's live-in lover, which prompts him to leave Westfield; vowing to never return. Several reasons bring him back, but not as he left: He has become an accomplished drag queen named "JA Nae." Estranged from most of his family, Dessie continues to embrace her controversial, wisecracking cousin. With Dessie's moral support, Junie Boy lives his life openly. She, on the other hand, has graduated from college with a business degree and is working at a major securities company. Finding success in her career, she longs for an equally satisfying love life. With her youthfulness working against her, she succumbs to the sensual delights of a slightly older, married man.

Junie Boy's murder in this mid-size southern city brings out the best and worst in its residents; not to mention some of the darkest and dirtiest secrets that had lain hidden for years.

I am an anarchist. I wrote Horned Humons as a way of suggesting how an anarkhist society -- a society without either power-tripping or money -- might actually function, and I made it a novel so that I, and other readers, could have the vicarious experience of living in such an incredibly free society.

At the time I decided to write the book, I could see no way to get from here (most of the world's workers enslaved to capitalism and even more of the world's population believing in the prevailing Dominance idea of Patriarchy that "someone must always be in charge") to there, (a world where no one has coercive power over anyone else, and where we, the ordinary people, the workers, in order to survive, do not have to either fight like wild animals in the marketplace where there is no "virtue" except money, or submit to a life of toil enslaved to the "winners" in the vicious game of capitalist competition, a world where we all peacefully cooperate to feed and shelter and clothe everyone, and care for (not exploit for profit) our living planet.)

For me -- and, I'm sure, for thousands of other readers -- reading a good science-fiction book is like taking a trip to a foreign land where I don't have to struggle with a strange language, where I don't have to leave my comfortable arm-chair and be uncomfortable in strange surroundings, where I don't have to eat funny-tasting exotic food or worry about the questionable cleanliness of foreign toilet facilities, where I can meet people of other species and converse with them, where I can breathe the air and walk upon the ground of alien planets, and where I can fly among the stars and be someone I could never be on Earth.

The part I like best in any science-fiction novel is the travel-log part, where I can go to another planet circling a distant star. There, I can meet interesting people of different species, entertain my soul with unusual scenery, and attend happy community occasions, only a few actual steps from my own refrigerator.

Many of the aliens in Horned Humons have never seen or met a humon being. This gave me the chance to write a First Contact story -- always a favorite of science-fiction fans --near the beginning of Chapter Eleven.

Anarkhism was called the "noble ideal " by the great anarkhist, Emma Goldman, whom the FBI labeled "the most dangerous woman in America." I believe the civil liberties exemplified in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution - Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Association, Freedom to Protest, and Freedom of -and from Religion -- are one of the most important results of that thread of anarkhist feeling which pervades American culture to this day.

So, read Horned Humons, and travel to a planet where there are other problems besides defending your civil liberties and personal freedoms against a would-be tyrannical government spearheaded by a never-elected president. He moves to Manchester, after being rejected by his family and suffering a succession of tragedies. Suresh is the glue that holds the story together, providing a source of strength for Tanya and Stephen despite the challenges that he himself faces.

Ultimately, the story is one of hope, of how the power of love helps three very damaged people heal their lives - and those of the friends who come to mean more than family. It is a story that transcends the boundaries of race, colour, class and sexual preference and will likely appeal to men and women everywhere who have had to grapple with issues of incest, sexual and physical abuse, bisexuality, homosexuality, violence and AIDS. In the author's view, the story is particularly pertinent to the current international debate on issues surrounding gay relationships. In the United States, the catalyst for the current discussion has been the subject of marriage between same-sex partners; but at its foundation, the matter is far more complex than that. Cultural and religious taboos, intolerance and ignorance are all a part of the current global pre-occupation with gay, bisexual and trans-gendered persons and these are all subjects that are explored and debated in When Worlds Collide.

If you are looking for a book to read that is 'normal', you have come to the wrong place. I could have developed the character of the person or persons that this book is about. I don't exactly develop any characters. This is about what is in your mind. I don't need to develop your character, as you already know who you are.

The build up of conflict is sort of covered although conflict is usually a physical thing with someone else. This is about the conflict that we have inside our own mind. Our personal conflicts fester just out of blew beneath the skin and stays there although I do pick at it like a scab.

The resolving of conflict aspect of a 'normal' book is not really addressed. I do talk about possible solutions to out over reacting in certain adverse situations.

All those people that can't hold a job because 'the boss' just doesn't understand should read this book. In fact, we don't understand 'them' but they are the boss. This book is for all those people that have been suppressed for so long that they have no self-esteem. Why would anyone write a book about him or her of for them? All those people that are not quite socially acceptable or who continue to make relationship mistakes can relate to at least some things and somebody in this book. You are not alone.

This book is about religion, politics, love, society and all the other topics that few people should discuss or write about. I start with the circumstances surrounding family dysfunction, which inspired this book. I examine the possibility that I might be gay. Pondering women's' role in this society and their effect on my life follows that. Questioning spiritual matters and carrying life's essence into adulthood is then discussed. I talk about the four dimensions of love, genetic and the slave trade. I finish with an old man's perspective on life.
