The 55 true short stories tell entertaining experiences of the author and of her family and friends. Most stories are of a humorous nature but a few tell of experiences not so humorous, but interesting because of an unusual or unexpected twist. Many, but not all, story settings are small town, either in the author's present day Beachburg, Ontario or in hometown Coe Hill. These are good Canadian-flavour tales. Readers can usually relate to the human foibles which endear us to so many of the story characters. Most stories have happened between 1950 and today. A few photographs scattered throughout add to the interest. This is a book suitable for reading as many or as few stories as time allows in one sitting. These stories are ideal for reading to an audience as a part of entertainment. All stories have satisfying, usually happy endings. They are warm, "fuzzy" -type, family stories with which most people could identify. This book is also available from Heather at 1-613-582-3257, or at these retailers : Ashlie's Books in Bancroft; The Old Hastings Gallery Store in Ormsby, Ont; Lakeside Pavilion of Barry's Bay, Ont.; Wilno Crafts; Madawaska Art Shop in Maynooth; Coles Books in Pembroke, Ont., and Heart and Home Gift Store in Beachburg, Ont. Also written by Heather and published by Trafford is The Show Must Go On, a collection of earlier memoirs.

Born in the second-storey bedroom of his parent's big brick Victorian home in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Old Bob recalls his childhood and the coolness of his mother's hands that were the result of her upbringing by the Barnardo Institution in England. He recalls the stressful times of the Great Depression as a child in the city, before moving to the country, where life for him and his family became more gratifying with happiness, and where the wilderness could provide more gratifying comfort and knowledge. He remembers the War years and the flaming guns calling for all Canadian boys eighteen years of age and over. Then the post-war years of his life and romance, and the bitter-sweet of it, along with the raising of his children. If you are a senior, you will identify with the times and, if you are of a younger generation, hopefully you will learn a wee bit from this story. The groundbreaking book on recovering from infidelity and surviving marital affairs...and coming out stronger and more in love than ever. Courageous, bold, honest. Brian (husband): After nearly two decades of marriage to a sexy, loving woman - with whom I made love almost every night - I came home from work one evening and told her I was moving out, leaving her for another woman. Lucky for me, my wife refused to give up on our marriage. We are now closer and more committed than ever. What you're probably wondering is, if I loved my wife so much, why did I do it? In this book, I have answered that question. Danielle (teenage daughter): When my father told me he was leaving my mother for another woman, I felt it was me he was abandoning. I wondered "what has my whole life been so far, a joke?" In this book, I share the truth about my feelings Anne (wife): My Husband's affair became the best thing that ever happened to me, yes eventually, but it was also the most devastating of my life. There was a time when I wondered if I could even live through it. What people are saying..."Riveting...Mesmerizing...I couldn't put the book down." "My Husband's Affair" deliberately removes itself from providing "the theoretical and psychological" explanations for the why of infidelity and instead purposes to take readers on a gut-honest, courageous, straight-from-the-heart journey into the lives of a couple/family who endured the aftermath of an affair. A must-read before couples, facing infidelity, make life decisions they may later regret. This book provides an alternative to the expected... hope that it's not over. Don Huston, BTh, MC, RCC, Couples Therapist This book makes a wonderful contribution to the growing willingness of couples to "break the code of silence" and share their experience with affairs in order to help others. It offers clear insight into the pain involved as well as great hope for the power to recover and rebuild the marriage. Peggy Vaughan, author of "The Monogamy Myth" and Host of www.dearpeggy.com For too long too many have suffered in silence because of the stigma associated with affairs. This book gives an honest look at the reality of betrayal and offers hope through the testimony of one brave couple. Margie Thaler - A Reader What a ride! Anne captures her marital journey in a way that leaves you feeling as if you've just completed a double loop on a roller coaster...only to realize there's another one coming! After reading their story, I see Anne and Brian as champions of honesty, commitment, perseverance....and true love. Monica Columbus - A Reader

Eddie Flynn from Brooklyn is the story of a small boy's struggle to survive in the harsh world of Red Hook in the early days of the 20th century. For Irish immigrants, survival was a daily challenge: to stay cool in the summer in the too crowded flats; to survive the winter and the illness it inevitably brought. For the fathers, there was the daily struggle to avoid the warmth and comfort of the saloons and bring home a full pay envelope so the rent would be paid. And for the mothers there was the endless struggle, frequently with a drunken husband, to provide food for an increasing number of children. At eleven, Eddie faced all these challenges alone. In spite of the fact that people said it couldn't be done, he escaped from the orphanage where his father tried to leave him. Elated by his success, he and his dog, Buddy, set out with confidence to find something to eat and a place to sleep. It was not easy. Some days they ate, some days they didn't. Covered by newspapers, they slept on rooftops, curled together to keep warm. He's a little boy and some days he cried, burying his tears in Buddy's coat. But always, some thought, some memory brought back his determination. This is the story of a survivor. It shows what even a small boy can achieve by determination, reliance on himself, and his refusal ever to give up. He didn't grow up to become a bank president or a famous leader in his country. He grew up to become a man, beloved by his family and those who recognized his achievements.

How will you be remembered? Legacy is the transference of things from the past. Though often thought of as a gift of property, it has the potential to be so much more. Legacy is a gift of learning and a gift of attitudes. It reflects our ideals and our convictions. It is consigned through the things we so and the choices we make. We will each pass on a legacy more profound than we can imagine. We have the opportunity to empower current and future generations to set and manage the direction of their lives, according to their aspirations. We can pass on the ability to be productive, the desire to boldly face whatever challenges life may bring. Or we can surrender to misery and assign scarcity to those who follow. We can inspire an appreciation for passion in life by guiding and encouraging younger generations towards an intensity in their vocations, their adventures and their relationships with others. Or we can dishearten then through reproach and condemnation. How will you be remembered? Are you imparting a message of hope or despair? Will you be remembered because you encouraged or because you disparaged? Are you teaching self-confidence or defeatism, passion or apathy? Are you leaving the legacy of your choosing?

One family's struggle for the past twenty-six years with Neurofibromatosis, and how we have coped with it. Especially how we have dealt with and come to terms with it. Especially how we have dealt with and come to terms with other people's attitudes towards the syndrome and facial disfigurement. In the belief that our own personal experiences may encourage others in similar situations. The author began to write this book with her husband and children ten years ago after a road traffic accident. She trusts that by sharing her own hopes and fears it will help others to understand and hopefully come to terms with their own situations.

Photographs, notebooks of leaves, and memories of childhood wonder are poignant reminders of Mary's needless encouragement, "Faster, daddy, faster." Life moves much faster than we think, happy times pass quickly. It's not a substitute for the passage of life, but satisfying to know that Mary and I enjoyed her early years as the good old days worth remembering in a little book. All the days were important and there will continue to be good days but none will be more engaging for Mary and me than those that brought her initial start in life.

A comparison of life in African and Western communities. Highlights the unfortunate downturn in the West, where family values may be set aside in pursuit of material wealth. Failure to achieve often leads to frustration, disenfranchisement and murder. Relations kill each other to either get even or call attention to themselves.

The book is about a promise that a mother makes on the day her only son, Adam Arthur James dies, at age nineteen. This is a true story of a connection between mother and son that leads to a beautiful, inspirational book filled with original poetry, songs, and insightful life lessons. The book is about death, grieving, finding purpose, and following a destiny which connected this world and the world beyond. Mostly, the book is about faith and unexplainable events that drive a grieving mother to aspire to a profound and magical place. The story is real and a gift to anyone who reads it. Inserted in this book is a CD, called Adam's Sound, which provides the reader with not only a reading opportunity, but a listening opportunity of some of Adam's original songs (16 songs/approximately 40 minutes).

You may wonder about My Mother's Notebook. My mother was terrifi ed of losing her memory. She watched Dad's mental decline for six years as he suffered the indignity of Alzheimer's. She wanted no part of that! To keep her mind sharp, at 85, she picked up an old spiral notebook and began: "There was a time when". I believe she felt good about this project, and just continued remembering and making lists and comments. Before she died, she told me about the notebook and asked me to take it, as there was a message in it for me. You'll be able to recognize it, and I hope you will have one for your family. You might notice I did not write something of my own under every category, but I have allowed room for you.
