By Harold W. Montzka
Unlike today’s world religious views, the belief in one Supreme Being was once a widespread phenomenon. In The Separation of Heaven and Earth, author Harold Montzka provides evidence of this contemporary view with new arguments. By studying anthropology and the history of religions, Montzka shows evidence for the belief system of the egalitarian hunters who spread across the globe. In the Near East, the area from the mountains in Turkey to the Persian Gulf, people traded freely without evidence of borders or conflict. Then, social hierarchy became evident in a small area. Shortly after this, a number of hierarchical sites appeared suddenly, and society saw massive buildings, city walls, ethnic divisions, trade to benefit the elites, war, and instability. Developed over forty years, The Separation of Heaven and Earth points out that a single cosmological theme was present in ancient literature as well as recent preliterate hierarchies. The cosmology justifying the elites in hierarchical societies provided for the society by control of nature. Those few groups who have remained egalitarian do not use this cosmology. They are not dependent on the rituals of a social hierarchy; they depend on the providence of their creator.

This educational tool will not only provide information about HIV/AIDS, it will also allow you to explore other topics, with your child, such as compassion, creating alternatives to watching television, empathy, empowerment, making wise choices, responsibility, risky behaviour, self-concept, self-efficacy, and so much more. It is therefore a wonderful precursor to those necessary adolescent discussions. The book is a great resource for school libraries, guidance counselors, other educators, and parents. The simple but effective ways that the concepts are presented are guaranteed to spark many discussions and create many teachable moments. The book is full of age-appropriate activities, thought provoking questions, instructive dialogues, poetry, vignettes, interesting short stories, and much more. Some of the major benefits of using this book, as a school-library resource or as part of the guidance curriculum, will therefore be: - To provide factual information about HIV/AIDS in an age appropriate and child friendly format.
- To assist children to understand and to think differently about the stigma and discrimination that seems to retard efforts toward HIV prevention.
- To allow both educators and students to discuss sensitive issues objectively and safely.
- Since HIV/AIDS may be considered a symptom of other issues, the broad spectrum of issues covered in this book will provide opportunities to cover many topics across the guidance/character building curriculum.
In this era when, globally, more and more persons between the ages of 15 and 24 are contracting HIV, it will never be too soon to introduce our children to the topic, but, in a balanced way. That is exactly what this book will do for the children that are in our care. This educational tool is probably one of the most meaningful investments that we will make for our children. Let's start the discussions on HIV/AIDS Now!

This book is about change that is needed in education. It is about D. Arthur Hilary going through graduate school and his encounters with the disabling experiences of his daughters and the children of colleagues and friends as they manage their way through the rigors of the imposed educational system. Arthur recognizes essential difficulties in the teaching process and management of youngsters in school. He points out the overall reform that is apparently needed in administration. Through his studies and research, Arthur discovers a strategic management system that is applicable in designing effective teaching systems that are bound within a matrix of rock solid learning theory. In the end, Arthur is caught up in the political aspects that curtail if not prevent change from occurring. The story is relevant. It has what it takes to stimulate the kind of dialogue that can enrich the educational encounters of maturing children.
